Discreet and Kodak Announce Collaboration in Digital Film Production
Posted Sep 19, 2003 Print Version   Page 1of 1

Discreet, a division of Autodesk, Inc., announced its collaboration with Eastman Kodak Company to bring Kodak's experience in film color science and color management to emerging digital intermediate and film workflow solutions.  The partnership boasts improvements in the area of color fidelity, accuracy of digitally processing and viewing scanned film stocks. Discreet provided technology demonstrations of Kodak's advanced monitor calibration and film look preview system running on its lustre digital color grading system at the International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

One of the challenges facing film laboratories and post-production companies today is the accurate manipulation of film scans when using digital systems, especially in tasks such as conforming, color grading, retouching and restoration, compositing or visual effects. Kodak's advanced monitor calibration and film look preview system solves this problem by providing a calibrated digital environment that accurately simulates a projected theatrical print.

With an increasing amount of digital effects being used in movies today, and the growing number of films being produced as digital intermediates, meaning the entire films are scanned and processed digitally at high 2K (2048x1556) or 4K (4096x 3112) resolutions, the ability to easily and accurately visualize digital images is of increasing importance.
