Marking its entry into the emerging digital home entertainment category, Zenith Electronics Corporation introduced its first DVD recorder and hard-disk recorder at CES 2002. The XBH312 DVD/PVR combo combines a DVD/CD player with a 40GB hard drive. The XBH312 features an internal NTSC tuner for high- quality program reception, and an electronic program guide. Viewers can record one program while watching another, program TV shows for later recording, show still images in thumbnail format, and enjoy a variety of editing and file management features. Like Zenith's DVD players, the XBH312 includes a single-disc, progressive scan DVD player compatible with DVDs, CDs, CD-R and CD-RW discs, and MP3 files. The DVR313 DVD recorder enables viewers to record onto popularly available DVD-R/RW discs, and also includes an internal DVD/CD player. Designed for convenience, the DVR313 makes it easy to record, play back and store hours of programming. It can record in 5.1-channel Dolby Digital Sound, and features a variety of video editing functions. Its progressive-scan DVD player is fully compatible with DVDs, CDs, CD-R and CD-RW discs, and MP3 files. Both the XBH312 DVD/PVR combo and DVR313 DVD recorder will be available in the third quarter at a suggested price of $499.
