Stomp Enhances Editor’s Choice-Winning RecordNow MAX CD/DVD Recording Software

Stomp, Inc., maker of utility software and computer accessories, has announced enhancements to its RecordNow MAX CD/DVD recording software—an EMedia editor's choice winner--with the new version 4.5. The new RecordNow MAX 4.5 now supports the ability to record "multi-border" DVD-R, DVD+R, and DVD+RW discs in "sessions," allowing users to store information on a DVD disc incrementally, instead of having to burn the entire disc at one time.  RecordNow MAX 4.5 also incorporates a new "audio normalizer" feature that equalizes the volume level of audio CDs that are created from WAV, WMA, MP3, or CD tracks that have different volume levels. Also new in this version is DLA (Drive Letter Access) 3.57 that is faster than previous versions, according to Stomp, and now supports "Fast Format" (background formatting) of DVD-R and DVD-RW discs. As with previous versions of RecordNow MAX, users can simultaneously record to multiple discs, creating duplicate CD copies, Video CDs, data CDs, DVDs, bootable CDs, CDs from ISO images, and CDs from a live audio source.  Users can convert (rip) CD tracks into MP3 files at up to 320Kbps, and burn MP3 files, WAV files, and CD tracks, to standard music CDs for playback on audio CD players. Current users of the RecordNow MAX product family, including RecordNow MAX 3.x and 4.x or the RecordNow MAX Platinum bundle will be able to upgrade to the new version for free.   RecordNow MAX is designed for use with PCs running Windows XP Home or Professional, 2000, ME, NT 4 with SP4 or higher, 98SE, or 95 (OSR-2), and supported CD-RW or DVD-R/RW/+RW drives. RecordNow MAX will be available at retail stores next month for a suggested retail price of $39.95, and is available now for electronic download from the Stomp Web.  Stomp also offers a free, downloadable 30-day trial version of RecordNow MAX.

Rimage Everest and Prism Plus! CD/DVD Printers Now Available from MARCAN as Standalone Units

MARCAN, Inc., leading CD/DVD solutions provider, is now offering two new CD/DVD label printing options: Prism Plus!, the next-generation Rimage thermal CD/DVD printer; and Everest, Rimage's highly rated photographic quality printer. Previously these were only available as an integrated part of the Rimage Producer II duplication system. With full-color labels and a scratch-resistant finish, the Everest thermal re-transfer technology brings offset color print quality to the world of CD/DVD publishing. MicroDry variable dot printing delivers images equivalent to 160 lines per inch, eclipsing magazine print standards (150lpi). A white undercoat printing, using a CMY-White ribbon, makes it possible to produce difficult label effects including photorealistic printing on silver surface media. PrismPlus! boasts a print rate of only seven seconds for full coverage labels, and a three cents-per disc label cost. The printer also features USB connectivity, increased ribbon capacity, and a low-ribbon indicator that reminds you to change the ribbon before it runs out. The Printhead Integrity Check (PIC) reviews each individual element on the print head before every print to assure high-quality output for unattended environments. Everest and Prism Plus! are available now from MARCAN as either standalone units, automated printing solutions, or as an integrated part of a Rimage Producer II CD-R/DVD-R publisher. The Everest sells for $5995 and Prism Plus! is available for $3995.

ATI Debuts New VPUs

ATI Technologies, Inc. has launched the RADEON 9500 PRO, a DirectX 9.0 visual processing unit (VPU) designed for the performance mainstream market. ATI has also introduced the RADEON 9500 and RADEON 9700 VPUs, which—like the 9500 PRO--are derivatives of ATI's successful RADEON 9700 PRO product, launched less than three months ago. Microsoft's DirectX 9.0 is the platform for which many game developers are creating their new titles, according to ATI, which means a larger market will have the ability to enable features programmed specifically for the DirectX 9.0 platform via the ATI VPUs. ATI's RADEON 9500 PRO also features eight rendering pipelines, 275/550 clock speed, AGP 4X/8X compatibility, and 128-bit memory architecture combined with 128MB fast DDR memory. The RADEON 9500, available exclusively through add-in-board partners, offers many of the same features with four rendering pipelines and 64MB fast DDR memory. The third new product, RADEON 9700, will also be available through add-in-board partners. It features DirectX 9.0 support, eight rendering pipelines, AGP 4X/8X compatibility, 256-bit memory architecture, 128MB fast DDR memory, and clock speeds of 275/550.
