Maxell Delivers 4X Printable-Surface DVD-R Media

Maxell Corporation of America announced an expansion of its line of recordable DVD media with the introduction of a new series of advanced DVD-R discs that incorporate a printable surface, allowing custom printing with select inkjet and thermal printers.

Maxell's new Printable Surface General Purpose DVD-R discs are compatible with DVD-R recorders up to 4X. The company's newest DVD-R discs are designed for custom printing with special CD/DVD inkjet and thermal printers or for custom silk screening. The Printable Surface DVD allows customers to create custom logos and program information on DVD discs without the wobble problems that can be introduced when adhesive labels are affixed to DVD media.

Printable DVD-R discs are available with three different printing surface options: white matte for ink jet printers, and shiny silver and shiny white, which can be used for thermal printers and silk screening.

Avid Chooses Sonic's DVDit! SE for New Version of Avid Xpress DV

NewTek Releases Fifth Free Texture Collection

HP Unveils New Storage Products

HP announced a new storage product family and packaged server storage offerings designed to meet the needs of small and medium-size businesses (SMBs), as well as enterprise customers. The combination of the new HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) family and industry-standard HP ProLiant servers gives growing businesses, remote and departmental offices and channel partners reliable storage solutions that are simple to acquire and deploy.

Part of HP's Smart Office initiative for SMBs, the technology packages are designed to provide customers with technology that is easy to own, works better together and comes with the right expertise from HP and its partners to help make growing businesses more successful. With estimated U.S. list prices starting at under $10,000, the HP StorageWorks MSA and HP ProLiant server packaged solutions tackle one of the biggest barriers preventing emerging businesses from adopting external shared storage - cost.

The MSA family is composed of three products:
• MSA30 - a direct attach storage enclosure ideal for workgroup and departmental users who need a flexible, scalable external storage.
• MSA500 - a direct attach storage system designed for storage consolidation with outstanding data protection and availability and that is ideal for remote sites and distributed clustered environments.
• MSA1000 - an entry-level SAN storage array that simplifies the transition for direct attached storage (DAS) to SAN.

Maxim Introduces New High-Speed Analog-to-Digital Converter

Maxim Integrated Products, a leader in the development and manufacture of high-performance analog and mixed-signal products, expands its portfolio of high-speed analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) by unveiling the MAX1123. The MAX1123 delivers an SNR of 57.5dB that remains flat (within 1.5dB) up to an input frequency of 500mHz.

This performance is even more remarkable given the low power consumption of 495mW at a sample rate of 250Msps, an industry first. The MAX1122/MAX1123/MAX1124 are ideal for applications such as cable and cellular infrastructure, broadband communication systems, and high-performance video equipment. These devices are in production and available in a space-saving, 68-pin QFN-EP package specified for the industrial temperature range (-40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius). A pin-compatible, 8-bit 250Msps ADC (MAX1121) is currently sampling.

An evaluation kit is available to speed designs. Pricing for this 10-bit ADC family starts at $36.85 (1000-up, FOB USA).

Sony Ships Blue Laser-based Professional Disc for DATA

Sony Electronics is shipping its first generation of Professional Disc for DATA optical storage drives, automated devices and media to OEMs and system integrators. Based on blue laser technology, the new Professional Disc for DATA media stores up to 23 GB of native capacity per rewritable or write-once, read-many (WORM) disc, while the new drive sustains a maximum native transfer rate of 11 MB/sec, delivering an advanced optical storage and archiving solution for professional data-intensive applications.

For high capacity and high performance disc handling, the new automated Sony Autochanger offers up to 1.6TB of native capacity in a compact 19-inch rack-mount design that may be configured with one, two or four drives for the desired balance between storage capacity and speed.

Digital Video Expo West Announces New Special Events and Keynote Address

CMP Media's Digital Video Group announced the addition of new special events and a keynote address to its Digital Video Expo West 2003.
