ADS Tech announced that it is now shipping its new PYRO 1394b PCI Card and PYRO 1394b Cardbus for Notebooks. The PYRO 1394b PCI Card is a true 64-bit PCI interface card that supports FireWire devices with transfer speeds up to 800 Mbps. By upgrading to the new card, PC, Mac and network users can achieve twice the speed of 1394a for improved workflow and increased productivity. With the new card, users have the real time delivery they need for audio and video applications where dropped or out-of-order frames cannot be tolerated. Available through ADS Tech's network of online and retail channels worldwide, the PYRO 1394b PCI Card has an ESP of $80. The kit includes the PYRO 1394b PCI Card, with two nine-pin 1394b ports and a six-pin 1394a port. The PYRO 1394b Cardbus for Notebooks has an ESP of $99. DigitalStream and BHA Unveil XVD Combo-Deck DVR

DigitalStream-USA (DS-USA) and B.H.A Corporation (BHA) unveiled at CES the XVD Combination Deck, a digital replacement for the videocassette recorder (VCR). XVD is an advanced video compression technology (codec) developed by DS-USA that makes it possible to record, in real-time, two hours of high-quality video onto a standard CD-R/RW. The XVD Combination Deck, which brings together an affordable digital video recorder (DVR) and a fully-featured DVD player all in one unit, is the first offering in a planned family of XVD-enabled DVR products.

The XVD Combination Deck allows users to program record TV shows just like a VCR, but replaces bulky videotapes with low-cost, reusable CDs. Users can also record directly from the unit's DVD player or external video sources, such as archiving home videos from a camcorder.

Visual Circuits Introduces Multi-Zone Functionality

Visual Circuits has introduced Multi-Zone functionality. In direct response to the needs of graphic designers, video production houses, and creative agencies, Visual Circuits now offers the ability to define various areas of a display screen into zones, assign different types of digital media content specifically to play in each zone, and update this digital content from any internet location in the world. The result of this functionality delivers the equivalent of the cable news broadcast look first introduced by CNN to any type of display -- flat panel, plasma, LCD, TV, or a kiosk.

Graphics (overlays or on-screen display), pre-scheduled or web-driven scrolling text, web pages and digital video files can be displayed in any or all of the zones. Visual Circuits, long known as a leader in networked digital video integration, recognized the time was right to bring forward Multi-Zone media content capability. Visual Circuits' Media Messenger remote system management software, together with their soon-to-be released Firefly MZ (Multi-Zone) Digital Media Player, provide everything that's needed to make any type of display screen a powerful visual merchandising tool.

Elpida Memory Delivers 2 Gigabyte DDR2 Registered DIMMs

Elpida Memory, Inc announced volume production of its 512 Megabit-based 2 Gigabyte DDR2 registered dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs). The 2 Gigabyte modules are the highest density available for the server market, and they offer high-speed performance with a data transfer rate of 4.3 Gigabytes per second (PC2-4300). Elpida's newly developed stacked BGA (sBGA) technology creates a slim module (4.8 millimeter thickness) that increases air flow space between modules, thus improving thermal performance and reliability for server applications.

Elpida's new DIMMs are based on Elpida's 512 Megabit DDR2 SDRAM devices that operate up to 533 Megabits per second (Mbps). The modules are organized as 256M words x 72-bits x 2 ranks, and they contain thirty-six 0.11 micron, 512 Megabit DDR2 devices that are stacked and mounted on the DIMMs using Elpida's unique sBGA stacking technology. The mounted devices have a CAS latency (CL) of 3, 4, 5 with a burst length of 4, 8. The standard 240-pin DIMMs have a JEDEC-compliant outline with a slim thickness of 4.8 mm, and they support Error Checking and Correction (ECC) necessary for high-end server applications. The modules also offer 1.8V operation -- one-half the power consumption over DDR.
