ProLine Announces Scratch Protection Formula For All CD and DVD Disc Formats

ProLine, a longtime producer of Accessories & Media Packaging for the Home Entertainment and Computer Environment, announces a new development for an invisible disc coating that makes the data side of all disc formats more scratch resistant. The formulation, Disc Guard 2, is a liquid compound of special emulsifiable resins that simply buffs on and off the disc.

The oxygen-activated molecules left on the disc surface produces a clear layer that allows the laser-read data to be enhanced for correct reproduction while forming a shield of protection over a short period of time without restricting immediate disc use. A hard protective glass-like coating guards against accidental scratching and fingerprints during disc handling. Application of the formula requires two small drops costing just pennies per disc while repeated use increases the durability of the disc.

Should a disc be subjected to unusual handling, the coating previously applied takes most of the abuse while preserving the data content embedded in the disc. Damage of this nature can be removed from the hard-coating and a new application can be re-applied for continued protection, prolonging disc life.

ProLine's Disc Guard 2 is now available in a complete kit that includes a disc-gripping applicator base, two soft application and buffing cloths along with a 2 fluid ounce bottle of the formula for conditioning over 200 discs at a SRP of $16.95.

New Spansion Flash Memory Family Offers Robust Security

Spansion has announced that designers of mainstream mobile phones and portable electronics gained new weapons against malicious hackers, phone thieves, and other high-tech criminals with the introduction of the Spansion S29PL family of Flash memory products. These 128-, 64- and 32-megabit devices, the industry's fastest for 3-volt wireless systems, use market-leading 110-nanometer floating gate technology to provide the price-performance demanded for today's mainstream mobile product designs. Spansion Flash memory products are manufactured by Spansion and available from AMD and Fujitsu.

Advanced Sector Protection, available throughout the Spansion S29PL family, is the industry's most robust Flash security feature set and the only one to feature password protection for everyday consumer products. Multiple layers of security help protect against tampering with unique identification numbers, access settings, and other protected information while fending off viruses, worms, and other network attacks.

The Spansion S29PL product family contains two distinct 128-megabit products: the standard Spansion S29PL127J and the specialized Spansion S29PL129J. The innovative S29PL129J product features dual "chip-enable" inputs that enable designers to use a single-chip 128-megabit solution on platforms otherwise limited to addressing 64 megabits of memory. The product provides the same industry-leading performance as the standard Spansion S29PL127J product while replacing two separate 64-megabit devices to save board space and cost.

The Spansion S29PL product family is in volume production of 128- and 64-megabit products, with 32-megabit products to follow. The 128-megabit, 64-megabit, and 32-megabit devices are priced at $12.00, $7.00 and $4.00 each, respectively, in quantities of 10,000.

Adobe Premiere Pro To Demonstrate High Definition Video Production at NAB

Adobe Systems Incorporated has announced it will demonstrate Adobe Premiere Pro with high definition (HD) video solutions during the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) event in Las Vegas from April 19-22. BOXX Technologies, Matrox, Canopus, Cineform, Bluefish, Black Magic, and 1 Beyond are among the companies showing new HD solutions based on Adobe Premiere Pro, at the Adobe booth (# SL4730) and throughout the show floor. The wide range of HD solutions available with Adobe Premiere Pro--from HDV to uncompressed 1080i--enables users to select a solution to fit their needs. Adobe Premiere Pro-based HD systems can be configured for as little as US$5000, significantly changing the economics of delivering HD content.

Adobe offers a scalable platform, as customers move from DV to HD using the familiar Adobe Premiere Pro environment--whether editing DV on a laptop or HD on a networked broadcast system. Bringing HD post-production to the desktop lowers investment costs and makes HD accessible to more post-production facilities. In addition to the range of formats, Adobe Premiere Pro-based systems offer a range of real time effects including transitions, motion, 3D, color correction and titling. Together with Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro provides a smooth workflow for a complete HD post-production solution.

Also at NAB, David Trescot, senior director of Digital Video at Adobe will be the featured presenter in the NAB Multimedia World Super Session, "The High-Def Desktop" on Monday, April 19 in the Las Vegas Convention Center, room #S219 from 10:45 am-12:00 pm. Other participants include Dave Fester, general manager of the Windows Client division of Microsoft Corporation and Scott Bryant, owner and creative director of STEAM in Santa Monica, California.
