Sorenson Squeeze 4 Product Line Now Shipping

Sorenson Media has announced the immediate availability of Sorenson Squeeze 4, a new line of video compression applications for digital video professionals and enthusiasts. The Sorenson Squeeze 4 product line includes the Sorenson Squeeze 4 Compression Suite, Sorenson Squeeze 4 for Macromedia Flash MX, and Sorenson Squeeze 4 for MPEG-4, all of which are available in Windows and Macintosh versions. Sorenson Media's upgraded video compression line-up introduces new features such as support for high-definition (HD) video and the Sorenson AVC Pro codec (also known as H.264) in the Sorenson Squeeze 4 Compression Suite and Sorenson Squeeze 4 for MPEG-4.

Sorenson Squeeze 4 Compression Suite is a compression application that incorporates HD encoding for a variety of video formats including MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, QuickTime, and RealMedia. Additionally, the Windows version of the Suite includes HD encoding options for Windows Media 9. The new Sorenson AVC Pro codec included in the Sorenson Squeeze 4 Compression Suite and Sorenson Squeeze 4 for MPEG-4 creates high-quality video at roughly 70 percent the data rate of MPEG-4. The result is smaller video files with increased clarity for low-bandwidth distribution.

The Sorenson Squeeze 4 line-up features a customizable interface that allows users to arrange a video preview pane anywhere on the screen in either single or multi-monitor workstations. Also, among the list of additions to Sorenson Squeeze 4 is a new batch-processing feature that allows producers to apply many presets and filters at the same time to multiple video files, a new video zoom tool for pixel-perfect cropping, a preview slider with in/out markers allowing a segment of video to be previewed before compression, and shortcut keys that supply quick access to common compression functions.

Electronic Windows and Macintosh versions of Sorenson Squeeze 4 are currently available for purchase at the Sorenson Media Web site. Boxed versions will be shipping within three weeks.

Sorenson Squeeze 4 Compression Suite (Windows or Macintosh) is available for $449. Sorenson Squeeze 4 for Macromedia Flash MX (Windows or Macintosh) is available for $119. Sorenson Squeeze 4 for MPEG-4 (Windows or Macintosh) is available for $199. Upgrade pricing is also available for current users of Sorenson Media products.

DVC Announces CineRAM 422 for Single-Link HD-SDI

CineRAM 422 allows Varicam and other single-link HD-SDI camera users to capture uncompressed image data to computer-based storage. In addition, CineRAM 422 provides a host of functions including immediate shot review, frame rate conversion, and test pattern signal generation.

The CineRAM 422 makes it possible to create an uncompressed digital feature film with no more than the CineRAM, a camera, and a computer. Users record shots into the CineRAM 422 device. As it records, CineRAM 422 converts HDSDI video to standard image files. Frame files are automatically uploaded from CineRAM to computer disk storage over a gigabit Ethernet connection.

At about five pounds, CineRAM 422 is small enough to be mounted to the camera, carried in a camera bag or attached to a Steadycam, boom, or dolly. CineRAM is entirely solid state, making it suited for harsh environments. On the set, multiple CineRAMs can be networked with image archive servers. In the field, CineRAM can be connected directly to a laptop and images can be uploaded onto portable FireWire drives.

The CineRAM 422 also can function as an on-location frame rate converter. In Varicam mode, the CineRAM 422 captures only the unique frames and can play them out at standard rates.

Kanguru Solutions Unveils Battery Powered Flash Card Burner and DVD Player

Kanguru Solutions has announced the Kanguru Slim FC-RW, a battery powered portable flash card burner that allows digital camera users to copy flash card data onto a CD without a computer.

The Kanguru Slim FC-RW works with eight different media types, including Compact Flash (Type I/II), IBM Micro Drive, Smart Media, Secure Digital, Sony Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro and Multimedia Cards. Canopus Ships Bus-powered ADVC110 Analog/Digital Video Converter for Windows and Mac

Canopus Corporation has announced the availability of ADVC110, a portable, external, bidirectional analog/digital video converter for Windows and Mac OS-based computers that features FireWire bus-powered operation and audio-only conversion capabilities. ADVC110 is an affordable conversion solution that connects VHS, Hi8 and other analog video equipment to DV cameras, decks, and editing systems.

ADVC110 is ideal for the capture and output of S-Video and composite analog video from FireWire-equipped notebook or desktop computers. There are no software drivers to install and systems equipped with 6-pin FireWire ports are able to supply power through the FireWire cable, so ADVC110 does not require an external power supply. Systems and devices equipped with 4-pin FireWire ports will require an optional power supply. ADVC110 can also operate as a stand-alone converter without requiring a computer.

To deliver the highest-quality video preservation during analog-to-DV conversion, ADVC110 features Canopus's DV hardware codec technology that is found in the full line of Canopus DV capture cards and Advanced Digital Video Converters. On the audio front, ADVC110, like the other converters in the Canopus ADVC line, supports locked audio when converting from analog to digital video, assuring perfect audio and video synchronization. What makes ADVC110 unique is that it also allows for conversion of analog audio signals only, so users can easily record from any analog audio component without requiring a video source.

In addition to supporting all popular DV and analog video equipment, ADVC110 is compatible with leading editing and DVD authoring applications, including Canopus EDIUS, Canopus Let's EDIT, Apple Final Cut Pro and iLife, Avid Xpress DV, Adobe Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas, Ulead MediaStudio Pro, and Windows Movie Maker. This broad video equipment and software support ensures maximum compatibility for almost any DV-editing workflow.

ADVC110 supports NTSC, PAL and SECAM standards and is available now for a suggested retail price of $319 from Canopus and its authorized resellers.

Ulead Adds Double-Layer DVD Support to VideoStudio 8

Ulead Systems, Inc has incorporated double-layer DVD burning into VideoStudio 8. Along with VideoStudio 8, Ulead now offers double-layer DVD burning support with DVD MovieFactory 3, Ulead's consumer-level DVD creation software, and DVD Workshop 2, Ulead's professional DVD authoring software.

The double-layer DVD is a DVD format which offers a longer recording time and/or higher recording quality for video applications. Adding an additional storage layer increases the storage capacity of a DVD disc to 8.5 GB, which allows users to burn approximately 4 hours of DVD-quality video. With nearly double the capacity of a single-layer DVD disc, the increased capacity allows users to burn longer or higher quality DVD productions on one disc. Double layer DVD discs are backwards-compatible and can be played on most DVD players sold in the market today.

Double layer DVD support for VideoStudio 8, DVD MovieFactory 3 Disc Creator, DVD MovieFactory 3 Standard Edition and DVD Workshop 2 is available for free at the website.
