Canopus Announces EDIUS NX for HDV

Canopus Corporation has announced EDIUS NX for HDV. EDIUS NX for HDV offers video production capability with an integrated software and hardware solution for real-time HD and SD editing, effects, and composing. With its real-time workflow, EDIUS NX for HDV lets videographers mix HD and SD video footage and work with video, audio, and effects layers while providing full-resolution HD video output to an HD monitor for preview.

Powered by EDIUS Pro 3 nonlinear editing software, EDIUS NX for HDV provides native editing and real-time processing of HDV, DV, uncompressed SD, MPEG-2, and MPEG-1 formats. EDIUS Pro 3 is designed for real-time, multitrack, mixed-format HD/SD editing, compositing, chromakeying, titling, and timeline output capabilities, and supports real-time output of multiple video tracks, effects, and graphics and title layers. EDIUS Pro 3 also supports direct-to-DVD timeline export.

In addition to support for editing of HDV clips in their original MPEG-2 format, EDIUS NX for HDV lets users edit by way of Canopus' variable-bitrate HQ codec. EDIUS NX for HDV can also capture SD analog footage to DV formats.

EDIUS NX for HDV will be available for a suggested retail price of $2098.

Leitch Introduces Live Nonlinear Multi-Camera Editing

Leitch Technology Corporation has announced a new solution for multi-camera editing based on its VelocityQ non-linear editing system.

VelocityQ's "Live Non-Linear Multi-Camera Editing" combines VelocityQ's integrated multi-camera editing capabilities with the ability to simultaneously edit and record from multiple input sources. Multi-camera programs can be edited from the live input feeds, which are also recorded separately to disk. The editor can then make further edits and refinements to the program, including moving and changing edit points between camera angles, after the initial live edit is completed.

Each live input source is captured by a dedicated ingest station. These ingest stations, running the Leitch QIngest software on the same Quattrus hardware used by VelocityQ, record the live feeds to a shared storage area network. A complete VelocityQ editing system, also utilizing the same storage, can begin editing these sources immediately, even as they are still being recorded. Using VelocityQ's multi-camera editing functionality, up to four sources can be selected interactively as they are viewed simultaneously in real time. Once recording is complete, edit points can be changed or refined before applying them to VelocityQ's timeline with cuts or transitions. As the complete source material from each camera has been recorded, further editing and finishing--including transitions, color correction, effects, and more--can be performed in the timeline. Since ingest and editing can be done at full quality, no recapturing is necessary after editing; the program is immediately ready for final output.

Fairchild Semiconductor Introduces New Video Filters/Drivers

Fairchild Semiconductor has announced a new family of integrated video filter/drivers: the FMS6143, FMS6145, and FMS6146. Featuring fully integrated functionality, these multi-channel devices offer video designers an active approach. The FMS6143, FMS6145, and FMS6146 decrease test and design time, reduce inventory, and increase image quality in DVD, LCD, TV, set-top box, and other digital consumer products, the company claims. These integrated video filter/drivers also eliminate the need for multiple discrete components. For example, the 6-channel FMS6146 replaces as many as 80 parts to help designers lower pick-and-place design costs and reduce board space by up to 20% in video applications.

By providing 8MHz cut-off frequency and 48dB stopband attenuation, these devices meet standard-definition video requirements and allow them to be used as anti-aliasing or reconstruction video out filter drivers. Internal diode clamps and bias circuitry enable the video filter/drivers to accommodate AC- or DC-coupled input signals. The outputs on each device can drive AC- or DC-coupled single or dual coaxial cable loads, eliminating the need for expensive output coupling capacitors and reducing design cost.

The FMS6143, FMS6145 and FMS6146 are available in SOIC and TSSOP packages. These products are lead-free, meet the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B, and are compliant with the European Union requirements that will take effect in 2005.
