Creative Introduces the USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor

Creative, a producer in high-quality audio for the PC, announced the USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor, the first ever Sound Blaster with video editing capabilities. This audio system combines audio playback with video technology in a single solution for audio and video that connects to the PC via USB 2.0, all for an estimated $229.99.

Hardware Accelerated Video Encoding and Filtering
Because it utilizes hardware encoding, the USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor allows users to enjoy encoding to MPEG and DV formats. Hardware encoding enables functionality with a wider variety of systems, not just high-performance desktop systems required by software-only encoding solutions. The compression technology available from the hardware encoding greatly minimizes digital artifacts, such as blockiness and loss of detail (even at low bit-rates). The technology also provides video clean-up filters that consistently reduce random noise, increase video quality, and extend recording time.

Comprehensive Software for Professional-Quality Video Editing and One-Step DVD Creation
Users can create top-quality DVD movies using the Ulead MovieFactory 3 SE. One-step DVD burning enables users to save hard drive space by authoring a DVD straight from a video source directly to a disc, bypassing the computer's hard drive altogether. For the advanced user, more complex editing is done with the Ulead VideoStudio 8 SE. This software allows users to transfer video from an external source and extract unwanted scenes; moreover, users can add transitions, music, narration, titles, and special effects.

Superior Audio in Music, Movies and Games
The THX-Certified USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor delivers 24-bit advanced HD music playback in 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 surround sound, with Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES decoding for DVD movies. In addition, EAX support provides realistic, real-time audio effects processing, a technology that has been incorporated into hundreds of the top PC games.

Connect Camcorders, TVs, VCRs and More
The USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor features DV, S-Video, composite video ins and outs, and analog and digital audio in and out. A built-in 4-port USB hub, allowing users to record from any audio or video source including a camcorder, TV or VCR. Any edited content can be converted back to its original source and/or played back on a TV or VCR for viewing and recording.

Digital Network Protocol Provides a Unified Standard for Integration of Harman Professional System Products

Harman Pro Group, part of Harman International Industries, Inc., unveiled HiQnet, a connectivity and control protocol. HiQnet will integrate all product categories in the signal chain for professional sound systems of all types, sizes and applications.

Professional sound installers no longer need to configure each component in a system for the medium chosen for the system's signal-path backbone. HiQnet's software will sense the types of connections and do the configuring for them automatically. Signal paths can be reduced in complexity since all audio and control data can share a common "pipe". In addition, system diagnostics will be enhanced because all information pathways -- audio and data -- will always be consistent.

Systems designers, installers, and operators will no longer need to manage multiple disparate operating systems or be responsible for programming individual signal processors, speaker controllers, wireless microphone systems, or mixing consoles. The aggregate benefits and features of the HiQnet protocol include:

· Unified layout of on-screen product configuration
· Simple preset configuration of an entire system of products across multiple brands and product classes
· Common configuration of networked audio-routing across all components of an entire system
· Custom control panel creation consisting of controls from multiple products across multiple brands
· Copy/paste of like parameter values from, and to, multiple products across Harman Professional brands
· Unified event logging and error reporting for entire system
· Advanced remote control and diagnostic capabilities
· HiQnet is compatible with the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) standard
· Configurable cue list within Studer Vista 8 or other future HiQnet-compliant consoles allows simple recall of presets on all connected HiQnet devices
· Accessible set of JBL speaker DSP tuning files, which can be loaded into any suitable product for consistent performance

HiQnet data command and control can utilize any major networking modality, individually or collectively, including serial, Ethernet, and USB connections. The first products to implement HiQnet protocol are the AKG Acoustics' WMS 4000 wireless microphone system, BSS Soundweb London, Crown International's I-Tech and ITS Series amplifiers and PIP cards, dbx ZonePro range and DriveRack 4800, JBL Professional's VERTEC DP Series, and Studer's Vista 8 digital console.
