Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0 Offers Software-Only, Real-Time Editing and Output

Ulead Systems, Inc., a leading developer of video editing, image editing, and DVD authoring software, has announced Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0, the newest version of Ulead's professional video editing software. MediaStudio Pro 7.0 now boasts software-only, real-time editing, display, and output features for the professional video editing software market. MediaStudio Pro 7.0 will be available in March 2003. Performance benchmarks from Ulead show that this newest version of MediaStudio Pro has the real-time ability to play and output five or more DV streams simultaneously on a single processor Pentium 4 processor-based 3.0gHz system. If complex sections in the project exceed the particular system's RT performance, MediaStudio Pro 7.0 saves time by flagging these sections, giving the user the option to render those segments only. As a result, the entire project can be played back or exported smoothly, without unnecessarily losing time on a full-project render. MediaStudio Pro 7.0 further reduces wait-time by offering a multi-threaded code base to use dual processors and Intel's new Hyper-Threading Technology (HT). HT Technology enables a new class of high-performance desktop PCs that can work quickly among several computing applications at the same time, or provide extra performance for individual software programs that are multithreaded. New features include support for real-time, full-screen display on a second CRT monitor, TV, or 1394 display device. The software handles both Type-1 and Type-2 DV sources in all real-time, dual-display modes. This full-screen display can be sourced from the Timeline Preview and from any effect preview interface in the application, such as transition, motion path and video filter dialogs. Other distinctive features include support for Flash (SWF) and COOL 3D Studio (C3D) files, which can be imported to the timeline, as well as pre-scan tape logging of scenes by thumbnail for expedient, visual batch capture. The software includes scene detection by content on all video formats and improved efficiency with Ulead's patented Summary Timeline view. MediaStudio Pro remains unique with its legacy CG Infinity and VideoPaint modules for 2D motion graphics, rotoscoping and compositing. Other new enhancements include real-time, multi-track audio mixing, more automatic, add-to-timeline options and enhanced timecode and source management. New creative tools consist of an all-new title tool with advanced texture, shadow and motion effects, as well as new video filters such as Old Film, Smart Blur and Diffuse Glow. MediaStudio Pro 7.0 also handles non-square pixel 16:9 ratio and offers improved overlay key algorithms. Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0 will be available in retail and online stores in March 2003. The estimated street price for MediaStudio Pro 7.0 is $495. Upgrade pricing for MediaStudio Pro 7.0 is to be determined.

Formac Introduces New Mac DVD Authoring Software with DVD-R/RW Bundle

Formac Electronic Inc., a leading manufacturer of performance-enhancing peripherals and advanced visualization solutions, has announced the second release of its DVD authoring software. Formac's new devideon x.2 software allows users to custom-design DVD menus, add chapters and use parallel encoding to accelerate the DVD creation process. The software ships with Formac's next-generation devideon superdrive, incorporating the latest Pioneer A05 mechanism with its 4X DVD writing speed. Existing customers can download the software for free at Formac's Web site. Formac devideon x.2 is compatible with Apple's FireWire G3, G4, iMac, PowerBook, and iBook computers and works on OS9 and OSX platforms. Formac's devideon(TM) x.2 software features a new intuitive interface, allowing users to create their own DVD menu in few easy steps. Text, pictures and movie chapters can be added by simple drag-and-drop. Size, color, position and other settings can be adjusted via an intuitive tool window. To increase encoding speed, Formac's devideon x.2 takes advantage of a proprietary PARENC routine, encoding several movie chapters simultaneously to MPEG-2. To further improve the encoding performance, the new software comes with a customized devideon screen-saver for OSX. Once activated, the screen-saver identifies and turns off redundant processes, focusing all available processing power on the encoding task. The devideon software also allows users to select the encoding quality of video and audio, allowing the user to record up to six hours of video on one DVD media. Formac's devideon(TM) software works only in combination with Formac's devideon superdrive. A limited trial mode of the devideon x.2 software allows users to encode up to two chapters with 10 minutes of video (DVD mode). Formac's devideon x.2 is shipping now with the new devideon superdrive. The bundle is available through Formac Certified Resellers and online at Formac's Web site for a suggested retail price of $399. Existing devideon owners can download the new software release for free on Formac's Web site.

Industry Execs Embrace SunnComm's MediaMax Digital Content Enhancement and Content Protection Technologies

SunnComm Inc. has announced the industry-wide launch of the SunnComm MediaMax Digital Content Enhancement Suite. MediaMax replaces components of the previously released DC2 Suite with a new generation of copy control technologies overcoming issues of DVD playability. By incorporating a stable multimedia user interface including PromoPlay into the MediaMax Suite, SunnComm delivers a complete solution giving consumers what they have come to expect from digital music and their PCs without restricting what SunnComm calls their "Digital Music Freedom." With MediaMax on an audio CD, users can play music on their computers and in devices like CD and DVD players with complete compatibility; move their music using Microsoft Windows Media 9 Series Digital Rights Management through a new easy-to-use user interface; and to make their own compilation PC playlists for their personal use. Only the SunnComm MediaMax Suite provides consumers with a complete Play-Move-Make experience. MediaMax provides consumers with an enhanced CD experience while at the same time it provides protection for the music. The copy control capability of MediaMax does not allow digital original audio content to be mass produced or posted to unauthorized file sharing networks. The MediaMax Suite, to be rolled out in commercial releases beginning this January is currently under evaluation with a majority of the record labels and is expected to be adopted when those trials are complete. For PC playback and playlist management, MediaMax relies on the latest release of Windows Media DRM and the new Windows Media 9 Series Media Player. Earlier this year, SunnComm was selected by Microsoft to participate in the Windows Media Early Adopter Program. The development team at SunnComm had early access to the player which enabled them to rapidly develop their solution for the widest possible audience. The problems solved with the new MediaMax Suite will give the recording industry the "green-light" for copy protected enhanced CDs as it is fully released in 2003.
