New High-Speed DVD Analyzer from Clover Systems

Clover Systems has announced the release of the new DVX DVD Analyzer. This new version of Clover's quality-control tool can measure DVD error rates at up to 16X on DVD-ROM and DVD±R, including dual layer discs, and CDs at up to 40X. It can also measure Beta and Jitter, and check the quality of blank media.

DVX can perform bit-for-bit comparison of two discs of any type, including video, audio, or data. DVX can also do bit-for-bit comparison of two discs without access to the original using a new exclusive feature called the "Clover Signature."

Clover Systems will be demonstrating their new 16X DVD tester in booth 31.033 at the MediaTech International tradeshow May 10-12 in Las Vegas.

Telestream and EVS Announce FlipFactory Integration with XT

Telestream, a provider of automated media encoding and delivery solutions, and EVS Broadcast Equipment, a developer of production server solutions, announced Telestream FlipFactory transcoding support for the EVS MXF format, XT Server, and XFile platform. The product integration provides seamless media and metadata file exchange between the XT Server and a greater number of professional systems. These systems include nonlinear edit systems, storage area networks, archives, and other media servers. It also extends FlipFactory universal transcoding support to include the EVS JPEG format used for sports broadcast.

The integration improves workflow in terms of continuity between EVS and Avid systems. Media is recorded into the EVS XT server. Then FlipFactory automatically provides transparent import and export of Avid-compatible media and metadata files with the EVS XT server. When media is ready to air, FlipFactory can also be used to deliver finished material back to EVS servers for play out.

EVS will be demonstrating the XT integration with Telestream FlipFactory in booth C4534 at the upcoming National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas, April 18-21, 2005. The demonstration will feature FlipFactory interfaced with Avid to enable seamless import and export of EVS MXF files. FlipFactory will also be demonstrated in Telestream booth SU11404. FlipFactory support for EVS is slated for availability in May 2005.

Optibase Introduces Broadcast-Quality HD Encoder At NAB 2005

Optibase, a provider of advanced digital video solutions, will show for the first time real-time professional MPEG-2 HD encoding for the PC at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention in Las Vegas, April 18-21, 2005, in Booth #SL 343. Optibase's MovieMaker 200 HD is designed for professional quality ingestion of HD for post-production studios, broadcasting, video on demand (VOD), and ad insertion.

The MovieMaker 200 HD board is designed to support both high-definition and standard-definition video input, with MPEG-2 compression support at up to 80Mbps. The board is designed to digitize from an array of inputs (file, analog, or digital) and to drop files to a host as either compressed or uncompressed data. The MovieMaker 200 HD board will ship with Optibase's encoding management application, MPEG Composer 200, version 4.0, with integrated device control, parameter setting, and encode status monitoring.

MovieMaker 200 HD is expected to be available in Q3 of 2005.

Atlantic Pacific Media Expands West Coast Presence

In a planned move that adds manufacturing capacity, Atlantic Pacific Media has opened a new videotape and DVD facility in Irvine, California. This is the fifth facility in the Atlantic Pacific Media family of companies, which includes facilities in Boston (Video Transfer), Las Vegas, Nevada (Transfer West Duplication), Southborough, Massachusetts (High Speed Video) and Rockville, Maryland (Video Labs).

The Atlantic Pacific Media opening adds ten more staff members, and a facility that includes DVD authoring, Optical Disc manufacturing services, CD/DVD duplication, high-grade VHS duplication, and broadcast services. Atlantic Pacific Media houses every format including, high-definition, digital betacam, and VHS.

Hitachi Introduces New DVD Camcorder

The Home Electronics Division of Hitachi America, Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., introduced the new UltraVision DZMV730A DVD Camcorder, the latest model in Hitachi's fifth-generation product line-up.

The DZMV730A features the new Hitachi Image Engine that provides a 20 percent improvement in video noise reduction and 20 percent longer battery life. The Hitachi Image Engine is comprised of the camcorder lens and LSI circuitry as well as the DVD optical drive. Compared to previous generations, the new DVD drive has reduced the product size by 15 percent.

The DZMV730A offers users 16:9 widescreen recording for DVD-R and DVD-RAM formats as well as extensive in-camera editing capabilities on DVD-RAM recordings. Using the Hitachi Disc Navigation feature, each movie clip is presented as a thumbnail image on the LCD panel, which can be selected for instant playback. The system allows users to fade, move, divide, delete, and combine clips without the need for a computer; moreover, users can create up to 99 playlists for custom playback of movie clips.

Additionally, the DZMV730A camcorder utilizes MPEG-2 video recording technology. Users can select between increased recording quality or extended recording time. When using a DVD-RAM disc, the camcorder utilizes either variable bit rate (VBR) or constant bit rate (CBR) recording formats.

LiveType PowerStart is a training DVD for Apple's powerful LiveType titling and motion graphics software from The course is designed to enable new and experienced users to master LiveType and be able to easily create stunning quality titles, graphics and visual effects with the software. Apple announced they would be adding it to the new Final Cut Express HD package in January 2005.

LiveType PowerStart, contains sixteen individual modules and addresses issues such as creating effects, title sequencing, and customizing preset effects.
