EventDV Wins Folio Eddie Award

MEDFORD, NJ - November 2, 2005 - Information Today, Inc. announced today that EventDV magazine has been honored with a Bronze "Eddie" award in the Media/Entertainment category by Folio magazine and its publisher, Red 7 Media. The magazine was honored at Folio's annual Awards Gala on November 1 at the New York Hilton.

EventDV, the Authority for Event Videographers (www.eventdv.net), launched in January 2005. "The Folio awards are the most prestigious prizes in B2B journalism," said EventDV Group Publisher Bob Fernekees. "It's a testament to how far EventDV has come in its first year of publication to earn such recognition."

Folio received more than 1,600 entries for its annual Eddie awards, which recognize editorial excellence in 90 categories. The Eddie awards judges assessed the submissions based on how well the magazines fulfilled their mission statements, which were also submitted as part of the entry process. "We were really impressed with both the amount of entries as well as the quality of the entries," said Folio Event Director Amy Zucchi. "It is truly amazing to see such excellence within the magazine industry not only from publications that have been around for many years, but also from the brand new magazines on the block. You can see the passion and dedication just by reading the entry forms and mission statements."

"The Folio winners are the best of the best, and it's exciting to find ourselves in their company, especially in our inaugural year," said EventDV editor Stephen F. Nathans. "We've assembled a talented roster of columnists and contributing editors who are the leaders in the event video field. This is as much their award as ours."

Published by Information Today, Inc. of Medford, New Jersey, EventDV is a monthly magazine with editorial offices in Madison, Wisconsin. With a current subscriber base of 24,000, the magazine is available free to qualified professional videographers. To subscribe to EventDV, click here.

Primera Announces OptiVault Archival Appliance

Primera Technology, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of CD/DVD duplication and printing equipment, has announced its OptiVault Archival Appliance. OptiVault is an automated, robotically-controlled appliance that backs up and recovers email and other critical data onto robust and affordable optical media. The device operates unobtrusively in the background of Microsoft-based servers. It backs up and easily recovers a wide range of critical data, including all emails sent, received and deleted including attachments.

Because OptiVault uses non-erasable, non-rewritable DVD optical media that can be stored off-site, it provides true WORM (Write Once Read Many) compliance. This specification is critical for publicly held corporations, healthcare, brokerage, financial institutions and others who are required to meet the strict email, data and document retention requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley, SEC 17-a, HIPPA as well as other government standards for record retention.

OptiVault is designed for use in a wide range of environments that may already be using a variety of primary backup methods such as tape, disc-to-disc or RAID. It interfaces to the server(s) through a single high-speed USB 2.0 port and can be optionally rack mounted in a 19" 4U configuration. During the backup sequence, discs are automatically loaded into OptiVault's built-in, high-speed recorder. Then, each member of the backup set is printed direct-to-disc with serialization and other identifying information for fast and easy cataloguing and retrieval.

Files for backup and archival can be sourced not only from the server, but also from networked client computers running Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Solaris, and Netware. The lockable front panel door keeps the media and robotics safe and secure. Two integrated blue LED light clusters illuminate the interior of the unit. Powered by EMC Dantz Retrospect Software Included with OptiVault is EMC Dantz Restrospect, Single Server Edition with Restrospect Agent for Exchange.

The OptiVault Archival Appliance is priced at $3495 MSRP. The optional Rack Mount Kit is $99.95. The OptiVault Archival Appliance is available immediately from Primera's Authorized Resellers and Distributors in more than 80 countries. DTS/Nielsen Entertainment Research Study Affirms Growth Trends for Home Theater, Surround Sound

DTS, Inc. has announced the results of a DTS-commissioned study conducted in conjunction with Nielsen Entertainment Research, showing growth in the home theater and surround sound marketplaces. Revealing the importance of surround sound to the DVD market, the study shows the impact on DVD purchases as well as current and projected penetration of home theater systems.

Supporting the conclusions of the Nielsen Entertainment study, separate published reports by the Consumer Electronics Association estimate that by the end of 2004, 33% of U.S. households owned a home theater system, up from 21% at the end of 1999. Adding to the ownership levels, in an online survey of 2000 adults ages 18 to 65 across the U.S., Nielsen Entertainment determined that a full 75% of current home theater households have true 5.1-channel or greater surround sound installed, indicating the importance of sound to the home entertainment experience.

These figures are reinforced by marked increases in sales of DVD-based software over the past several years, coupled with the significant price decrease on systems from a multitude of consumer electronics manufacturers. The Nielsen Entertainment study also revealed a distinct upward trend in the role that sound plays in enhancing the entertainment experience. A full 73% of home theater owners and 76% of surround sound owners indicate that upgraded surround sound is the most important special feature on DVDs.

The study showed that surround sound owners are proactively selecting the sound format at the beginning of a movie, with 82% citing that they "always" or "sometimes" choose an audio format at the beginning of a movie (up 27% compared to the previous year.)
