New Video Display Processor Solutions From Zandar Introduced

New features for the FusionPro High-Resolution Video Display Processor from Zandar Technologies, a leading developer and global provider of multi-video display solutions, will make their NAB debut on stand #C3846, April 7-10.

The FusionPro along with the new features will be shown on a variety of display devices at NAB including two Clarity Visual Systems UXGA rear projection cubes, a Christie Digital SXGA rear projection cube, and a Zenith 30" LCD monitor.  New features on display will include:

• High Quality UXGA (1600 x 1200) output
• In-Picture Audio Monitoring of analog, AES/EBU & SDI embedded audio
• HD Inputs
• Z-Manager multi-system control software with support for graphics and audio

The FusionPro High-Resolution Video Display Processor combines Zandar's multi-window display technology with one of the most powerful image processors to date. The FusionPro carries a range of plug-in processing cards and associated i/o, enabling users to combine input formats like analog video, SDI, computer, DVI, and HD in the one system.  The cards can be used in 3RU or 1RU frames. The FusionPro supports up to 13 dual-channel input cards in a 3RU or 4 dual-channel input cards in a 1RU chassis or from 8 to 26 real-time, high resolution - up to SXGA (1280 x 1024). Zandar will be showing UXGA (1600 x 1200) at NAB with scalable windows on a single large screen display. The modular chassis is designed to provide robust solutions for large-scale audio/visual display applications including Command & Control, Virtual Monitor Walls, Presentation, Video-conferencing, and Control Rooms.

The modular 3RU chassis has a dual redundant power supply and along with the 1RU has easily accessible front-loading processing cards, and support for local and remote control. High image quality is achieved through a combination of 10bit RGB outputs, an advanced video rendering engine, and dynamic phase adjustment for accurate pixel mapping.

Zandar's new FusionPro 3RU has been in use in a number of key installations since March 2002. Some of these installations include Mellon Financial Corporation in Pittsburgh, Star TV Hong Kong, The European Broadcasting Union and WIN Television Network in Australia.

Optional software for both the 3RU and 1RU allows user configuration of displays (Z-Editor), and multi-system control (Z-Manager). Options also exist for UMD/Tally, hot-swappable front-loading redundant PSU, Dual Output Display and in-picture audio monitoring of analog. AES/EBU is provided by plug in cards and SDI embedded audio.

Sony To Incorporate Gemstar-TV Technology Into Blu-Ray Disc DVD Recorder

Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. has announced that the Sony Corporation plans to incorporate the Company's G-GUIDE Interactive Program Guide ("IPG") technology, into its world's first Blu-Ray Disc recordable DVD receiver, BDZ-S77, in Japan.

Sony has announced that BDZ-S77 will be made available in the Japanese market on April 10. BDZ-S77 will feature both a terrestrial analog and broadcast-satellite digital IPG that is displayed on screen, allowing the consumer to easily record TV programs directly from the IPG listing screens. At the touch of a button, G-GUIDE enabled products receive and store the selected program automatically, reserving it for the viewer to watch at a chosen time.

The G-GUIDE IPG is the Company's next-generation interactive program guide adapted for the Japanese market. It features Japanese-style program listings, advertising panels with animation and multiple targeting capabilities, as well as other advanced IPG functions including:

• Free G-GUIDE data, updated automatically with two days of full listings and eight days of highlight listings
• Easy one-touch access and record
• Listing of all programs currently on-air, with detailed program information
• Picture-in-Picture screen display on G-GUIDE IPG
• Search function with original G-GUIDE genre information

Gemstar-TV Guide's G-GUIDE technology is currently used in certain Sony Channel Server and CoCoon series hard disk drive recorders, which are also available in Japan, and have advertising capabilities much like those contained in the Company's new IPG for the U.S. market, TV Guide On Screen. As an increasing number of recordable DVD and hard disk drive receivers become high-density, the G-GUIDE system's easy watch and record functionality greatly enhances the value of these products by providing not only program listings and detailed program information, but also a variety of entertainment information via G-GUIDE data broadcasting in the Japan market as well as in other Asian countries.

ViewSonic Announces Shipment of NextVision M2000 Digital Media Center

ViewSonic Corp., a worldwide Visual Technologies leader, announced earlier that it is shipping its first digital entertainment product with digital video recording capability. The ViewSonic NextVision M2000 Digital Media Center, which uses the Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition operating system, is now on store shelves in select retail outlets, mail order and PC reseller channels.

Using the NextVision M2000, consumers can save space by consolidating a Digital Video Recorder, CD/DVD player/writer, MP3 Music library, and digital or video photography albums into one centralized home entertainment system with the power of a fully functional high-end PC. The system comes with a 160GB hard drive, a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 processor, multiple in- and outputs, and USB and Firewire ports. Its versatile form factor enables the product to be placed horizontally as a component in an entertainment system or in a traditional tower orientation.

Sonic MyDVD Media Suite software provides users freedom when burning DVDs through motion-video menus, animated buttons, and True DVD Slideshows with transitions and soundtracks. The suite also offers optimized Direct-to-DVD recording, allowing users to record their content directly to DVD from a video source connected to the computer's video input. In addition, it is OpenDVD compliant, enabling previously burned DVDs to be opened, re-edited, updated with new video and photo content, and re-burned to DVD and CD recordable/re-writable media.

Backed by a one-year limited warranty on parts and labor and available for an estimated street price of $1995, the NextVision M2000 is an alternative for consumers seeking to streamline their digital entertainment systems. An optional extended warranty is also available.

Media 100 to Demonstrate New Editing Solution for Mac OS X at NAB2003

Media 100 Inc., a leading provider of advanced media systems, recently announced plans to conduct a technology demonstration of a new Mac OS X-based HD/SD editing system at NAB2003 in April. The groundbreaking nonlinear system, dubbed Media 100 iHD, incorporates newly-developed HDX Technology that features 10bit uncompressed HD and SD I/O and real-time, broadcast-quality format conversion between any HD and SD formats. With HDX, Media 100 iHD is the first system of its kind to support resolution independent mixing and matching of HD and SD source material in the same timeline plus 10-bit uncompressed native HD editing.

Media 100 iHD incorporates the Media 100 i software, which the Company has developed and refined for ten years. The Media 100 i software supports Apple's Mac OS X operating system and Aqua user interface and gives Media 100 iHD many powerful, field-proven editorial, content design, and third-party interoperability functions, such as the following:

• DirectEdit technology providing access to most system functions directly and easily from the timeline--gone is the tedium of hunting through layers of menus
• InstantMedia integration for native media compatibility with any QuickTime application
• Unmatched Adobe After Effects integration enabling Media 100 i timeline elements to be exported as separate After Effects layers for independent manipulation
• Native-YUV color correction for professional results
• Advanced sound design support for real-time audio EQ, reverb and dynamics processing on up to 24 tracks of audio
• Direct timeline access to advanced Boris character generation and video effects processing

Real-time, broadcast-quality format conversion is a breakthrough of Media 100 iHD powered by HDX. Broadcast format conversion enables Media 100 iHD to convert from any HD format to any HD format, from any SD format to any HD format, and from any HD format to any SD format—all in real time.

At NAB2003 the Company plans to listen to customers' HD editing requirements and conduct a formal survey on the show floor to capture and analyze those requirements. The Company expects first shipments of Media 100 iHD to start before the end of 2003. The expected price is $9,995 for Media 100 iHD software and hardware (HDX). Complete Media 100 iHD system configurations, including a workstation and high-speed media storage, are expected to start at approximately $20,000. Shipment dates and pricing are subject to change or cancellation.

NVIDIA Awards Next-Generation GPU Manufacturing to IBM's Advanced Semiconductor Foundry

IBM and NVIDIA have announced that the two companies have formed a multi-year strategic alliance under which IBM will manufacture NVIDIA's next-generation GeForce graphics processor units (GPUs).

State-of-the-art GPUs, like NVIDIA's Geforce FX, have become process and manufacturing drivers. To deliver the immense computational power needed to create cinematic images in real-time, NVIDIA's GPUs require the most sophisticated process technologies.

As part of the agreement, NVIDIA will gain access to IBM's comprehensive suite of foundry services and manufacturing technologies, including power-efficient copper wiring and a roadmap that leads to 65 nanometers in the next several years, giving the company the necessary tools to advance its state-of-the-art GPUs.

IBM plans to begin manufacturing the next-generation GeForce graphics processor this summer at IBM's plant in East Fishkill, N.Y. The new IBM $2.5 billion chip-making facility combines IBM chip-making breakthroughs such as copper interconnects, silicon-on-insulator (SOI) transistors, and low-k dielectric insulation on 300mm wafers. The new facility began operation last year, and will ramp up in capacity throughout 2003.
