Sonopress Expands DVD Capacity by 30 Percent

Sonopress LLC, a has increased by 30% the DVD replication capacity in its U.S. manufacturing facility. Sonopress' decision to focus expansion efforts specifically on its DVD production lines results from the company's assessment of current industry trends and projected customer demand.  Market analysts attribute the rising popularity of DVD to declining costs of DVD players, as well as to the overall versatility of the format. Philips Adds New Microdisplay to engaze LCOS Line

Royal Philips Electronics demonstrated latest addition to its engaze line of liquid-crystal-on-silicon (LCOS) technology portfolio at the CEATEC show in Chiba, Japan with the unveiling of the DD720, a large-scale, single-panel LCOS microdisplay for next-generation large-screen TVs. The DD720 offers the highest contrast ratio (1000:1) in the engaze line and lower per-unit costs to enable high-resolution TVs with thin form factors at competitive prices. Philips' engaze line is based on the company's patented scrolling color technology, which allows for simultaneous projection of red, green, and blue onto a single panel, unlike other multi-panel LCOS displays which require a panel for each color. The DDP720 also features a 180Hz refresh rate, 1280x768 resolution, million-pixel resolution, and enhanced text readability in a 1.18-inch diagonal active panel. Philips plans to release the first engaze-enabled TVs by Q1 2003 in the U.S. and Q3 2003 in Europe.
