ShowVox Announces Launch Of Online Video Community

ShowVox Corp., a provider of online video community technology, announces the launch of ShowVox.com. ShowVox technology enables video enthusiasts and professionals at ShowVox.com to share their digital video, get noticed, and be rewarded. Video enthusiasts can share their videos in customized portfolios with friends and family, get noticed by TV shows looking to purchase clips, and compete in online video contests. Home videos have already been licensed to major reality shows for over $1,000 each. ShowVox.com also supports the blogging community, enabling bloggers to post videos that are linked from their blogs and receive real-time comments from viewers.  Video professionals can upload to customized portfolios in their field of specialty and showcase their demo reels and video samples to advertisers, agencies, and video production companies as a new outlet for getting work. Agencies and advertisers, for free, can easily search and find the best video producer for their project.  ShowVox.com is being introduced for a limited-time offer of $19.95/year for unlimited sharing of videos. Viewing is free to everyone. Membership features include:

o Unlimited storage and bandwidth for all videos uploaded.
o Videos appear on the site immediately after uploading.
o "ShowVox Ranking System" that moves videos to the tops of categories and into the "Top 180 Videos" section based upon their popularity. Most-watched videos make it to the front page and get the most exposure.
o Automatic extraction of video thumbnails and file information (i.e. size, format, dimensions, frame count, duration) from the video upon upload to give potential viewers more background about the video to be watched.
o Public and password-protected Private areas for storing and sharing of videos.
o Online Video Contest - all paid members who submit their videos before November 1st, 2003 are automatically entered (total cash prizes of $200 plus their video showcased on front page).
o Email notification system that sends favorite files and portfolio to friends and clients, sends notification when favorite categories or portfolios are updated, and tells you when someone has commented on your video.
o Support for Quicktime and MPEG1 video file formats.
o Custom search for viewers to find specific clips or video creators.
o User portfolios with unique features:
o Statistics show how many times your video has been watched.
o Customize your portfolio to showcase specific clips and personal or professional biographical information.
o Set a password for access to your private files.
o Create a custom address book for easily notifying friends or clients about additions to your portfolio.
o Receive a unique URL (i.e. showvox.com/YourName).
o Collect your favorite portfolios, categories, and video files in one place.

IRIDAS to Preview SpeedGrade Color Correction System at SIGGRAPH

IRIDAS will unveil its new color correction technology at SIGGRAPH 2003. SpeedGrade is a new application that allows for a more flexible approach to color correction than  was previously possible. Until now color grading had to wait until the last stage of the postproduction pipeline; with SpeedGrade, a bi-directional color correction workflow is easily accommodated.

SpeedGrade allows for non-destructive color correction: rather than changing the source material, the application simply attaches XML-based color correction parameters to sequence playlists. Using XML greatly simplifies exporting color information to asset management, compositing, and editing applications.  SpeedGrade exchanges color grading parameters with IRIDAS' FrameCycler uncompressed playback applications to allow color-corrected playback of the unchanged source material. Actual output of frames can be deferred until the very last point in the pipeline.

IRIDAS will provide technology previews of SpeedGrade and FrameCycler  3 at the nVidia booth (#2625) at SIGGRAPH 2003 in San Diego, CA, July 29 through 31. SpeedGrade is scheduled for release in the fall of 2003.

DeskShare Releases Video Edit Magic v. 2.7

DeskShare has released Video Edit Magic v. 2.7, a Windows video editing application.  Its drag-and-drop interface makes it easy to capture video footage onto the editing timeline and assemble a movie in mere minutes. Then add professional scene transitions, some background music, a couple of title effects, and get ready to show the world your finished project.  You can even edit and combine popular file formats including AVI, WMV, ASF, MPEG, JPEG and many more, all on the same timeline.  This really comes in handy and saves a lot of time, when you want to create something truly unique from multiple media sources.

A benefit of Video Edit Magic is the volume track which is displayed as a volume graph allowing you to change the volume of audio clips at any point from 0% to 400%. You can create fade-ins, fade-outs, doppler effects, and almost any volume effect that may have required predefined effects.

Video Edit Magic v. 2.7 includes more than 150 built-in transitions, making it ideal for hobbyists and professionals to turn ordinary videos into works of art.

FrameForge 3D Released

Innoventive Software, LLC, announced the release of FrameForge 3D. It provides a way for directors, filmmakers and other creatives to easily create and manipulate storyboards. FrameForge 3D includes a virtual set and fully articulated actors that allow users to explore and experiment in ways never before possible. Availability is immediate at $349.00 (retail) and $249.00 (educational) from Innoventive Software.

FrameForge 3D is available in Windows with a Macintosh version  scheduled for release in Q4, 2003.  FrameForge 3D turns storyboarding prep-work from an exercise in graphic arts into a dynamic, creative directorial experience by giving the user an easy-to-manipulate 3D virtual film set with fully posable actors, hills, trees, snap-together walls, furniture, and other elements, all of which can be dragged and dropped wherever they are needed to depict a scene. A storyboard created with FrameForge 3D gives cast and crew a comprehensive printed representation of the director's intentions, including the technical information required to create that shot on location. In addition, it creates a direct link from the mind of the director/filmmaker to the outside world, providing the stepping-stones leading to smooth, cost-effective production. Storyboard shots can be associated with parts of an imported script, played as a slideshow, exported to standard graphics files, HTML pages or turned into a Macromedia Flash animation.

Most importantly, the recording of shots into a storyboard includes  the following essential production components:
- The image of the shot as seen by a particular camera;
- A complete 2D, top-down blueprint view of all set elements including camera position;
- The camera settings (Height, Angle of View, and Zoom) required to  get the shot.

FrameForge 3D is designed to simulate a television control room, with  monitors at the top of the screen displaying the set through up to  eight different cameras simultaneously.  The use of real-world camera  controls makes framing shots easy. Storyboarding becomes a process of creative exploration far beyond just "getting it on paper."  The Control Room is where sets are built, cameras placed and shots recorded for the storyboard.  In addition to the view through the  cameras, a bird's-eye Blueprint View is provided that is an invaluable tool for  building and populating sets.

Other Features
- Simulates film sizes from 16 to 70mm with numerous aperture settings;
- Up to eight virtual cameras featuring full camera controls of  Pan/Tilt, Dolly, Zoom and Crane to find the best angles or shots to  capture the story moment;
- Camera settings (Height, Angle of View and Zoom);
- Complete 2D, top-down blueprint view of all set elements including  camera position;
- Trifold view with each stored shot:  Camera view, 2D view and  camera setting;
- Ability to import scripts from Movie Magic Screenwriter  2000, ScriptThing and Final Draft.

LSI Logic Integrates Super Audio CD and New Features for Volume DVD Player Market

LSI Logic Corporation announced that it is addressing the needs of the high-volume DVD playback market with its newest products, the single-chip LSI Logic ZiVA-6 DVD player family of system processors. The sixth-generation ZiVA-6 family consists of fully integrated system processors that include the MPEG processing and front-end servo logic for a cost-effective DVD player solution. The ZiVA-6 family supports emerging DVD features, such as SACD (Super Audio CD) playback and a PCMCIA interface for wireless connectivity or Flash media support, bringing new content into one device in the living room. To reduce manufacturers' risk and time-to-market, LSI Logic offers the ZiVA-6 family as part of a complete manufacturing kit (ZiVA-6MK).

To differentiate DVD products, the ZiVA-6 family provides features for standard DVD players, DVD home theatre in a box (HTiB) and new, networked digital DVD devices. The ZiVA-6 processor family supports the latest in high-quality audio content, including DVD-Audio and SACDs.  With thousands of titles now available, SACD -- supported by Philips Electronics and Sony -- is increasing in number of titles and popularity because it gives consumers exceptional sound quality that accommodates more than four times the information of the current CD format. The integrated SACD support and direct S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) input, combined with ZiVA-6-supported audio formats (DVD-Audio, MPEG-1, MP3, Dolby Digital, Dolby ProLogic, DTS, HDCD and WMA), gives manufacturers the ideal solution for DVD HTiB. Karaoke and Phantom Surround sound are also available through the ZiVA-6 family of processors.

For networked digital DVD products, the ZiVA-6 family integrates a PCMCIA interface that enables personal digital content, such as JPEG photos and MP3 files, to be shared with the DVD player via Flash media
or an 802.11 wireless connection. With these features, consumers can obtain content directly from their digital cameras or wirelessly from their home PC to enjoy in the comfort of their living rooms. In
addition, ZiVA-6 provides the highest quality progressive scan for a clearer viewing experience with its TrueScan technology.

ZiVA-6MK
Addressing the cost-performance requirements of standard DVD players, ZiVA-6 family integrates all the front-end and back-end functions of a DVD into a single chip, including MPEG processing, servo logic and audio and video DACs. Leveraging this integration, the ZiVA-6MK (manufacturing kit) reduces risk, time-to-market and BOM costs. The ZiVA-6MK supports multiple loaders and OPUs (optical pick-ups) for design flexibility. The complete manufacturing kit features a slim-line chassis design and includes the ZiVA-6 processor, a loader and motor driver, as well as all the literature and software to quickly and easily get DVD products to market. This solution reduces the total BOM for a DVD player to less than $30.

Samples of both the ZiVA-6 DVD system processor and the ZiVA-6MK will be available to qualified customers this quarter. Pricing for the processors is less than $10 in volume quantities.
