The new ADS devices--Instant DVD 2.0 and USB Instant DVD+DV--feature improved performance over previous versions of ADS' recorder products by combining the increased bandwidth of USB 2.0 with the high video quality and audio/video (A/V) synchronization provided by Cirrus Logic's CS92288 MPEG A/V codec.?

The USB Instant DVD+DV lets users capture from any analog or digital video source, including capturing directly from a digital camcorder via the DV port.  The design also supports a cost-effective DV daughter board that enables digital camcorders to be directly attached to a PC using a high-quality digital connection for data transfer and camcorder control.?
The Instant DVD products also feature the Cirrus CS4223 analog audio codec and the Cirrus CS4954 digital video encoder. Xequte Releases Solution for TV Playback of Image Slideshows

Xequte has announced the release of DVD PixPlay, VCD Slideshow Creation Software for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP. DVD PixPlay is a consumer solution allowing digital camera users to share their photos with friends and family, through the use of image slideshow CD's that can be played back on a TV using a DVD player. Generated CDs function like a standard DVD for easy usage. They are particularly suitable for those contacts that do not own a computer or have only rudimentary skills in their use, according to Xequte.??Using a thumbnail wizard, images can be retrieved from image folders, scanners, or digital cameras. These slideshow "frames" can then be edited and reordered, and together with a selection of background music tracks, are converted to VCD format and written directly to a CD-ROM. DVD PixPlay can output both VCD and the higher-quality SVCD format, both of which are supported by most popular DVD players.??Title page editing tools allow the user to create custom introduction pages containing text, images and clipart. Many common clipart objects are included, such as speech and thought bubbles and seasonal items, and these can also be added to images in the slideshow. ??DVD PixPlay offers control over the slideshow creation, including custom display times for particular images, optional overlaying of the image filenames, and 30 effects designed to enhance the transition from one image to the next. Slideshow frames can be generated from all standard image formats, including JPEG, JPEG 2000, GIF, BMP, and PNG.  MP3 and WAV files can be used for the background music accompaniment. Common video formats, such as AVI and MPEG, can also be written to CD-ROM in VCD format for DVD playback. ??DVD PixPlay is priced at $19.70.

321 Studios Releases DVD and CD Rescue Products

321 Studios, a provider of DVD backup software, has announced the release of its latest asset protection tools, DVD X Rescue and CD X Rescue. These two new products recover and restore data from unreadable, scratched, corrupt, or defective DVDs or CDs (CD-R and CD-RW.) Utilizing a DVD or CD burner, DVD X Rescue and CD X Rescue create new, playable DVDs or CDs from the damaged original.??According to 321 Studios, CD X Rescue and DVD X Rescue work far better than disc buffer solutions, which actually grind off a portion of the top layer of the disc. While these devices can often temporarily fix certain scratch problems, they are expensive, require refills, and don't offer a long-term solution for disc users, 321 claims. ??Users can rescue their damaged or corrupt CDs and DVDs with DVD X Rescue and CD X Rescue using nothing more than a DVD/CD burner and blank DVD or CD. ??DVD X Rescue and CD X Rescue have been tested extensively, are designed to work with all common PC and MAC formats and to be compatible with Windows XP/2000/98/ME.  DVD X Rescue and CD X Rescue work with most popular types of recorded discs.

DVD X Rescue and CD X Rescue will be available on September 3, 2003 for retail purchase. DVD X Rescue has a sale price of $69.99, with a $20 mail-in rebate. CD X Rescue has a sale price of $49.99 with a $10 mail-in rebate. Minimum System Requirements: Pentium-class PC, Windows 89/ME/2000/XP/2000, DVD recorder, and blank DVDs or CDs for recording.

nNovia Launches DVR and DV Product Lines

nNovia Inc., the Silicon Valley OEM manufacturer of professional Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) and other DV products, is launching a new series of products under its own brand name. To date, the company has focused on engineering, technology development, and private-label turn-key products, offering solutions that have been  integrated into the product lines of other manufacturers. The new nNovia product line will target professional video and broadcast, CCTV, AV presentation, and general consumer markets.??The company's initial DVR products are powered by nNovia's patent-pending technology, the SSP-100, a standalone multistream processor designed for managing real-time, high-bandwidth signals in and out of digital mass storage devices for DVR applications. The SSP-100, about the size of a business card, eliminates the need for ?high-power, centralized microprocessors and operating systems, according to nNovia. The technology is based on a combination of proprietary hardware and firmware for improved reliability over conventional PC-based architectures. Multiple SSPs can be used in parallel for higher-bandwidth applications or for products that require a large number of independent video streams. The SSP-100 also enhances flexibility, nNovia says, by interfacing with many I/O standards and "conforming" to native formats and signal environments.??In addition to the new nNovia product line, the company will continue to  develop and offer its technologies to other manufacturers.??nNovia says it is ready to ship three products and will demonstrate them at WEVA's Wedding & Event Video Expo in Las Vegas. These products are QuickCapture, a wearable or camera-mounted IEEE-1394 DV-to-disk drive recorder; FireSwitch, a "glitch-free" asynchronous, IEEE-1394 DV 4x1 switcher; and SmartHub, a user-selectable 6-port IEEE-1394 configurable hub/router.
