Adobe Expands Professional Repertoire with Availability of New Integrated Video Family

Adobe Systems Incorporated announced the availability of the new Adobe Video Collection -- Standard and Professional editions -- which are comprised of new versions of the company's video products: Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects 6.0, Adobe Audition, and Adobe Encore DVD. Also available for individual purchase, these products create an all-Adobe workflow to help professionals transform video and audio into compelling stories.

The Adobe Video Collection is available in two versions for Windows: Standard and Professional. The Professional edition includes Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects (Professional edition), Adobe Audition, Adobe Encore DVD, and Adobe Photoshop 7.0 software, delivering tools for editing digital images; designing motion graphics and visual effects; real-time video and audio editing; and DVD authoring. The Standard edition includes After Effects (Standard edition) for basic video and audio production, but doesn't include Photoshop. Both versions of the collection offer tremendous cost savings and allow users to expand their professional knowledge by adding new tools to their repertoire.

Adobe Premiere Pro, the latest version of Adobe's award-winning video editing software, has been redesigned to provide a real-time editing environment, along with productivity enhancements and professional tools that take advantage of the speed of Intel Pentium-based systems running Windows XP. After Effects 6.0 has added powerful new tools that enable users to add stunning motion graphics and visual effects to their video and film productions. Adobe Audition joins the digital video product family to provide a complete multi-track recording studio to efficiently create professional-quality audio. Adobe Encore DVD gives users the ability to create professional, multi-language DVDs and output to all recordable DVD formats for a wide degree of playback compatibility. All of Adobe's video products provide outstanding integration with each other and with Adobe's other graphics products such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

The Standard and Professional editions of the Adobe Video Collection for Windows XP are now shipping and can be purchased for an MSRP of $999 for the Standard edition and $1499 for the Professional edition. The products are available from www.adobe.com, Adobe certified resellers, as well as licensing and education programs. Until September 30, 2003, customers can purchase the Standard edition of the Adobe Video Collection for US$799.

Adobe Premiere Pro for Windows XP is available for an MSRP of $699. Registered users of previous versions can upgrade to Adobe Premiere Pro for an estimated street price of US$199. Also available for Windows XP, Adobe Encore DVD can be purchased for $549.

Adobe After Effects for Mac OS X 10.2.6, Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP, is available at an estimated street price of US$699 for the Standard edition and US$999 for the Professional edition. Current Standard and Professional edition customers can upgrade to the same edition of After Effects 6.0 for an estimated street price of US$199 and US$299, respectively. Standard edition customers can upgrade to the Professional edition for $499.

Adobe Audition for Windows 98, 2000 and XP can be purchased for $299. Registered users of previous versions of Cool Edit Pro can upgrade to Adobe Audition for an estimated street price of US$99. Since Adobe Audition is functionally equivalent to Cool Edit Pro 2.1, Adobe is offering a free upgrade from Cool Edit Pro 2.x to Adobe Audition.

Plextor Dual-Format DVD+/-R/RW Drive Supports Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and IEEE 1394 FireWire Interfaces

Plextor Corp., a leading developer and manufacturer of DVD and CD recording equipment, announced the new external PX-708UF DVD+/-R/RW drive for burning DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, and CD-R/RW discs. A dual interface supports both Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and full-speed compliant IEEE 1394 FireWire for data transfer. Now Plextor customers can easily share a single high-performance DVD/CD recorder among multiple Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows-based personal computer systems.

The new Plextor drive helps remove the risk of purchasing a DVD/CD burner that does not comply with future DVD recording standards, and it gives customers greater flexibility in choosing which DVD recordable media they use today. The PX-708UF supports 8X DVD+R and 4X DVD-R Writing; 4X DVD+RW and 2X DVD-RW Rewriting; and 12X max DVD-Reading. The DVD/CD burner also boasts high-speed 40X CD-R Writing, 24X CD-RW Rewriting, and 40X max CD-Reading. The drive includes a bundle of premium digital media software from Roxio, including Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 - DVD Edition, Roxio Toast 5 Lite, and Roxio PhotoSuite 5 SE.

The Plextor PX-708UF is a versatile DVD/CD burner specifically designed to deliver high-quality recording performance. The drive gives users the ability to create, edit, and share customized DVDs and CDs using video, photos, audio, and data.

The unit features a 2MB data buffer and burst data transfer rates of 480 Mbps (Hi-Speed USB 2.0) or 400 Mbps (IEEE 1394 FireWire), allowing users to burn a 4.7GB DVD+R disc in approximately eight minutes.

Lossless Linking/Zero Link technology enables users to perform basic editing tasks directly on the DVD disc, so there is no need to reload DVD content back to a PC to make minor changes, and no need to re-burn an entire DVD after making small edits.

A unique combination of Plextor features and technologies deliver unparalleled CD-R/RW recording reliability. Buffer Underrun Proof Technology prevents buffer underrun errors, so users can multi-task during a recording session. PoweRec(TM) is a sophisticated write strategy for stable recording at maximum speeds. VariRec(TM) allows adjustment of laser power to produce the highest quality audio recording possible.

The Plextor PX-708UF DVD+/-R/RW drive is scheduled for shipment to distributors and resellers in North and South America in September 2003. The PX-708UF drive has an MSRP of $359.00. All retail packages include unlimited toll-free technical support and one-year full warranty.

Discreet Ships lustre

Discreet, a division of Autodesk, Inc., announced that lustre, its software-based digital grading and color correction system for interactive film look creation, is shipping worldwide. The first customers to deploy the lustre turnkey system include leading film laboratories and post-production/film studios who applaud the system's creative power, productivity benefits and ability to integrate into diverse DI workflows.

Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville, California, and Technicolor Creative Services in Hollywood are the first film production facilities in North America to install lustre. In Europe, visual effects and editing house Mirage in Prague, Czech Republic, has also adopted the system, while Laboratories Eclair, a pioneering film laboratory in Paris, has already graded and mastered several motion pictures using dual lustre master systems and dual lustre assistant stations. In Sydney, Australia, high-end digital post facility Digital Pictures has also invested in lustre systems.

Using the lustre turnkey system, colorists and color timers can collaborate with DPs and filmmakers to digitally adjust the colors and look of a film -- from the most subtle changes to extravagant color and lighting effects. Developed in conjunction with Colorfront (Hungary), the lustre turnkey system delivers an intuitive environment for interactive color correction sessions, and provides efficiency benefits for Digital Intermediate and digital film finishing processes. Because it is a software-based solution, lustre offers the unique ability to introduce a parallel grading pipeline where multiple tasks can be accomplished simultaneously on common data, plus significant speed advantages over serialized hardware solutions.

lustre processes images of any resolution (2K, 4K and above), and provides industry-leading primary and secondary colour correction tools. It supports standard film scan formats (Cineon and DPX), with real-time playback of up to 2k 10-bit RGB data. Other key features include: tracking, keying, dust-busting, rotoscoping, and pan & scan tools; logarithmic and linear colour manipulation and management; and accurate monitor/DLP projector calibration, enabling the highest quality digital mastering.
