BrighTech and Microboards Announce Distribution Agreement for MediaBeacon Product Line

Microboards Technology and BrighTech have announced a distribution agreement that allows Microboards to distribute their DAM flagship product to in the United States. DAM (Digital Asset Management) has become a concern to several industries with large quantities of intellectual property that have a growing need to organize and protect those assets.

BrighTech has also announced the ability to directly integrate Rimage's Producer series of products with MediaBeacon software, a feature already in use by many of its clients. The addition of Rimage's publishing capabilities allows users to create a labeled, recorded disc with customized content and information on the fly.
To meet the storage demands of the typical MediaBeacon user, MediaBeacon has also integrated Pioneer's FlexLibrary line of jukeboxes for optical storage.

HexaLock Launches Version 2.8 of Their Suite of CD Copy Protection Products

HexaLock, Ltd., a leader in CD Copy Protection technology and digital rights management solutions, released Version 2.8 of its CD copy protection product line at the ECTS Show, London, UK. HexaLock technology can now be used to create copy protected CD-R as well as CD-ROM.  This new release is specifically designed to provide game developers with the strongest available copy protection for their fall releases."  HexaLock will be demonstrating their upgraded product line at Booth # 1160 at the ECTS Show.  Demo CD's containing the latest HexaLock CD-ROM and CD-R copy protection toolsets will be available at their booth.

A-Media Scanner Offers Windows Utility for Cataloging Audio and Video

A-Media Scanner scans any directory including its subfolders for multimedia files. It then gathers metadata such as media format, codecs, duration, bitrate, etc. from audio and video clips. Finally it creates browsable and searchable Web pages, playlists or any other document for use on Web sites, presentation CDs, etc. In addition, A-Media Scanner extracts set of snapshots form video files.

All gathered data is saved in XML catalog index file. Now it is possible to search catalog; create multimedia Web pages and playlists; mix data from other XML files or databases and export this information to other applications. A-Media Scanner supports XSL transformations with JavaScript and VBScript for exporting catalog information.

A-Media Scanner usage examples:
- Browsing and searching multimedia catalogs with any Web browser from local computer, Intranet or Web.
- Browsing multimedia file properties (codecs, duration, framerate, etc.) and content info (Id3 and Id3v2 tag Artist, Genre, Album Art, etc) with snapshots from video files.
- Automatic generation of local and Internet playlists and multimedia presentations in ASX or SMIL formats. Generation of Windows Media Server server-side WSX playlists. Generation of playlists in WPL, m3u or similar formats.

Pinnacle Systems Announces Interoperability with Macromedia Flash MX Professional 2004

Pinnacle Systems, Inc. announced interoperability between its Pinnacle Liquid and Pinnacle Edition high-end editing solutions and the new Macromedia Flash MX Professional 2004. Using Pinnacle's powerful XSend functionality, all users of Edition and Pinnacle Liquid editing solutions can seamlessly publish clips and projects as Flash video objects so that their compelling video images can be enhanced, using Flash MX Professional 2004, with content and interactivity targeted specifically for the web.

The Pinnacle XSend-to-Flash Video plug-in automatically converts clips and sequences directly into the Flash .flv format for immediate enhancements in either Macromedia Flash MX, Flash MX 2004 or Flash MX Professional 2004.

Toshiba Unveils Next-Generation DVD Recordable Drives for Mobile Computers

Toshiba Storage Device Division (SDD) introduced two slim-line optical disk drives that provide higher media recording speeds for mobile computers, and allow PC manufacturers to deliver better functionality to professionals on the go. The SD-R6112 slim DVD recordable drive enables mobile users to take advantage of 2X DVD recording, while the SD-R9012 super slim CD-RW/DVD-ROM combination drive delivers 16X CD recording speeds in a petite 128mm x 9.5mm x 126.1mm format.

The Toshiba SD-R6112 drive supports 2x DVD-R, 1x DVD-RW, 1x DVD-RAM read, 16x CD-R and 10x CD-RW, allowing users to take advantage of multiple technologies in a single drive. The SD-R9012 supports 8x DVD-ROM, 16x CD-R and 10x CD-RW. Both drives include buffer underrun technology and a 2MB buffer. The tray loading drives are also shock resistant and feature low energy consumption, making them ideal for laptop design.

Toshiba's SD-R6112 and SD-R9012 slim-line drives will begin shipping to mobile PC manufacturers in late August.

NAB to Launch New Postproduction World Conference

The National Association of Broadcasters announced the creation of the world's largest post-production educational conference: The NAB Post|Production World Conference, to be held during NAB2004 April 17 - 21 in Las Vegas. The NAB Post|Production World Conference, co-produced with digital media educator Future Media Concepts, will feature over 160 sessions on a large variety of topics including digital video and film editing, news editing, compositing and special effects, 3D animation, web design, DVD authoring, video encoding for DVD and streaming, sound design, digital imaging, tech
support for digital facilities and DV production tips.

The sessions, which will run all day Saturday and Sunday and afternoons Monday through Wednesday, are designed for intermediate to advanced users who wish to enhance effectiveness and creativity and walk away with power tips that they may apply to future projects.  

Software covered in the sessions will include Avid Media Composer, Avid Xpress Pro, Avid Xpress DV, Avid|DS, Protools, NewsCutter, Apple Final Cut Pro, Shake, DVD Studio Pro and Logic, Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere and Encore, Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver and Fireworks, Discreet, Combustion and Cleaner, and Boris Red and Continum.
